Enjoy combat Santa. Maybe you can get him in a wing suit and take out tanks on top of skyscrapers with his sleigh. Will they put in reindeer with NVGs? Maybe in update 4. The game may be fun for you, but it’s Battlefield in name only. It’s Fortnite mixed with COD, and it’s hot steaming garbage for those of us that expected an updated BF4.

Therein lies the problem, expectation.... Everyone expected an updated BF 4, most people that created BF4 are long gone. We are now in the 3rd game since BF4. It was released in late October 2013, so over 8 years ago..... Would we not expect some changes? Did we feel it would look and be the same except with updated graphics and new maps? Don't look backwards, look forwards, this game keeps getting better. BF4 is a great game I enjoyed it, it took a year after it's release to make it playable. I know our community loves BF4 and we have a lot of servers, that is cool. -bZ-'s name is prominent in the Battlefield community partly because of that. But, look at BF2042 as an updated version of the franchise, set in the future. No main scoreboard true, no VOIP true. What I see is a team focused game without the distractions of worrying what someone trash talks in chat or worse, or worrying about someone's high ping, or..... maybe calling someone out as a hacker because their K/D is too good. It takes the toxicity out and leaves it to the action in game. For me it is cool to use Portal mode to set up a server that I can set the parameters up for and invite people in. There will be more updates, there have now been 3 in pretty quick succession that have made good improvements. I am sorry that 2042 is not what you were looking for and I know you don't want to spend your hard earned money on something you wont play, I hear you. Coming from a Battlefield veteran: I like the game and have a lot of fun playing it. Games like this now a days are unfortunately released with a lot of issues and we find issues for the devs in some cases, but this game was released in better shape than BF4, it is just different. Happy shooting, I would hope to catch you online some day. Cheers

I’m still going to wait at least a year before I consider buying the game, maybe by that time more folks from BF4 will make the first transitions into 2042 but until they shut down BF4 servers entirely I think bZ will still be a huge presence there. Only time will tell.

I can’t disagree with You more. This game seems like a design for those with ADHD

Garbage like this. I feel like this game is designed for an 11 year old

I don’t understand this comment, I was only referring to the lack of consideration for the game that I have heard when taking to buddies of mine about 2042. I haven’t said anything about the design or anything. That’s not the quarrel. The quarrel is with the game being super duper new and not a huge amount of folks from the community seem too stoked about it

They actually are taking this out I read Friday night due to backlash. I agree, this is BF not COD. That is something COD does..... Designed for someone with ADHD, you never know, I do find there are less distractions and it is easier to play because of it, but when I team up with -bZ-HeavyDuty that is a big advantage for me. Great team player!!!!

All i wanted was a BF 3 remake and i'd be happy.. I'm not one of the fools that pre-ordered this beta game. I'll wait at least 6 months for when it's "Finished" then maybe I'll buy it.. As of right now, it's a Fort nite-COD For them 12 year olds. You'd think after Bf 1 they would "learn" but clearly not. People play BF because it's not cod or fort nite. Keep it unique and none of that cartoon graphic shit.

I did not order BF 2042. After the disappointment of BFV and the cartoonish gameplay of BF1 I was content to wait it out and let everyone else do the beta for me.

With BF4 I bought it and paid for the premium packs right up front. Then it blew chunks. But after a few patches it was decent enough that I finally stopped playing BF3. Although I seriously miss the mixed action maps of BF3 where vehicles and infantry were fairly well balanced and the jet/chopper whores didn't have a ridiculous advantage.

I'm still enjoying it, but there's so many glaring things wrong. It's unfortunate, because in some, places there was a noticeable amount of care put into the design or some small feature. For example, dust, snow, and foliage build up on vehicles as they interact with the environment. If the game had the basic features it should and better reliability, then those effects would seem amazing. Unfortunately here it's just infuriating that they made that work and not other, far more important things instead.

EA is quoted as saying they thought the downfall of BFV was the focus on campaign and not the true goal of becoming a BR contender, al la fortnite etc. So, to be fair, BF2042 has gone in the direction they wanted and getting the attention of the player base they are trying to sell to (which is not BF3 or 4 players). Its just too bad there are not nearly enough of those looking for a new game and too many BF die hards that have already realized this game is not for them. ITs gonna die just as fast, if not faster than BFV.

See EA thinking anything is the problem. They are too focused on chasing their perceived competitors without realizing that the people who play Battlefield are not usually the same people who play Fortnite, or Apex, or CoD, or whatever the new flavor-of-the-month game is. I play Battlefield specifically because it's not any of those other shooters.

Summary of 2042 development:

  • Developers started leaving during the release of BFV, as EA wanted to compete against other games (BRs and normal shooters) and their concepts internally never given a look at.
  • EA basically gave the memo of "copy what's popular".
  • Classes scrapped early 2020.
  • WFH with cross-gen was a massive pain with 5 different platforms with hardware being shared remotely.
  • Game shifted into a BF title April-August 2020 from the BR (so basically about 18 months of development time) with 128p & specialists.
  • The games original concept got shifted into Hazard Zone.
  • August 2020 is when production really got started and concepts got solidfied. So basically 1 year and 3 months of true production.
  • The leaked trailer (the epilepsy one) was basically early in production in early 2021 and show to QA in early 2021 in its finished form. Used BF3/BF4 assets.
  • "Ahead of scheudle" was a giant fib. Past & current DICE devs say it was based on baseless predictions.
  • In March 2021 DICE was overwhelmed and admitted they need help from others. But it wasn't easy again due to engine issues with lack of experience.#
  • Later on in the months it became obvious so many issues like UI where creeping up and causing many issues.
  • Technical test came and ofc was unstable and used Orbital as mentioned in the video was the concept map. And made clear the game was way behind schedule. And Tom was given indications then that BF 2042 was in a troubled state and stressed working environment (not due to crunch but more management issues etc).
  • Tom then got word that the beta & launch was going to be delayed but only a few hours later it was clear the delay was weeks and not months.
  • And ofc the last stretch where the beta was basically an alpha and the launch being a launch.
  • In summary vast majority of development issues was a massive lack of time, could've benefitted of an extra year or so in an era where delays of 3-6 months where common. And since so many people have left over development time the studio DICE is basically so different now it needs renaming to reflect reality.
  • Many projects where scrapped including a BC3 which EA thoguht wouldn't sell for some reason.

The future:

  • The next BF shooter is being scoped as a hero shooter.
  • Most interestingly it may be bands of specialists/heroes fighting against each other and not armies, even further away from BF 2042.
  • The "connected unvierse" is basically adding depth to the specialists.
  • A BR will come in the near future, not next 6 months but vague timeframe.
  • That said things have not absolutely set in stone and DICE developers have been hard at work trying to fix the game to be good as possible (though personally in my eyes the game has fundamental issues of the gameplay core that can't mesh well with say the maps, least that's my opinion) and listening to the community.

EA's response to the video.

“We are serious about Battlefield. EA is investing significant time and resources into Battlefield 2042 and the long-term success of the franchise. We have a strong new leadership group overseeing Battlefield led by Vince Zampella, Founder of Respawn and Group General Manager, and Byron Beede, General Manager of Battlefield. Rebecka Coutaz, will take over as the General Manager of DICE, and work closely with Christian Grass at Ripple Effect Studios and Marcus Lehto who is building a new studio in the Seattle area focused on Battlefield. Also, Alex Seropian and his team at Industrial Toys continue their work on Battlefield Mobile. We will continue to grow and improve Battlefield 2042 as it is the foundation for the future of this franchise. We have the right leaders in place and we’re investing in the teams and resources to capture Battlefield’s massive potential.”
