Unfortunately with the littlebird it spawns on the carrier, so when you go to land on the carrier to repair it pops up on the spawn screen for dead players to spawn into. Was likely he didn't know you were in it and repairing. Tip for repairing would be to land somewhere else hidden to repair. Funny enough I believe you can also land on the enemy carrier to repair without issues besides the out of bounds warning, but you can hop out to repair, hop in before the timer ends, then hop back out to repair.
