Bigwill, That is a stereolithography machine that kid is using.This company made a home version you can get on a list to purchase but are being sued for patent infringement so I doubt you will get a device from them. Plus the resin you run in this machine is liquid cancer and you have a mini bathtub of it in your house with these devices.
You can only get prototype parts from these machines that don't hold up to heat and friction for very long. At the office we have an FDM machine ( fused deposition modeler) that grows 3D parts from ABS plastic.
These parts are also prototype parts and will not withstand heat and friction for very long. Plus holding tolerence is an issue. The only way that piece can be made sucessfully is to machine it or injection mold the parts.
