Thoughts on "KYS" or "Kill Yourself" used in chat

Canada is a leftist hellhole, of course it's illegal to do that. There was a case here in the US in Massachusetts dealing with the same thing. It was ridiculous then and it's ridiculous now. Incitement itself is ridiculous and establishes a very dangerous precedent of criminalizing speech. This is a tool used by statists and paternalists to control the thoughts and actions of the populace under the guise of "protecting" them from themselves while in reality ensuring a more docile populace to preserve the state's grip on power. This law is merely an accessory law used to prime the people for acceptance of the actions of the state to criminalize speech. It rationalizes it for people by criminalizing something morally wrong - cajoling people into killing themselves - while ignoring the fundamental danger to the peoples' rights that is created by restricting any speech. This is no different than states justifying the prohibition of things like encryption by declaring it's to stop terrorists or child abuse. Ultimately it's an appeal to emotion by tugging on the heartstrings of empathetic people.

These servers are ( to the best of my knowledge ) not hosted in Canada and thus are not subject to Canadian law. Even if it were hosted in Canada the law you appear to be referring to seems to only criminalize the action(s) of the person doing the "counseling" and not the facilitator(s) of these actions such as phone service carriers, internet providers, or server hosts. It is however possible that such a law which does extend this offense to these facilitators but I don't feel like looking that up at the moment since it's irrelevant to Banzore's servers anyway.

Seriously, why are so many of you keen on controlling other people? If someone offends you either tell them to fuck off or ignore them. This is not a difficult premise. You don't need to go running to mommy and daddy every time the neighbor kid calls you a poopy head.
My friend this is not what that law says lol.

We have free speech laws up here in Canada too same as USA pretty much, that specific law is (essentially) an amendment to our constitution (we call it a Charter) that allows a legal pathway for people in VERY specific circumstances the right to die with dignity and on their own terms (we call it MAID: medical assistance in dying). Most conservatives here support this right actually and we don't consider it a left-ist position at all (although not all doctors support it and it is still an ongoing discussion).

This specific law just says for it to be legal a doctor has to be involved you can't just hook your hoser cousin Jimbo up to the hockey net and shoot pucks at him until he meets god because he asked you to help end it because his psycho ex Stacy ran off with the local maple syrup producer. You wont be arrested in Canada for telling someone to kill themselves, you will however be arrested for saying the Toronto Maple Leafs fucking suck ass even though it's a scientifically proven fact.

Hmm, I didn't consider the possibility that it could have been specifically for assisted suicide. I saw the exemptions listed there but figured that was done just as a way to protect doctors in palliative care situations. I think the confusion came from the use of the word "counsels" in it. I was interpreting it too broadly rather than as a specific giving of formal advice by a doctor.

Looking at the history of that law, the original text without the added exemptions appears to be from 1985 which seems in line with it being a law intending to ban physician-assisted suicide. Interesting that they chose to simply amend this law to explicitly allow for physician-assisted suicide rather than simply repealing it.

I stand by my statements about Canada being a leftist hellhole. Your "conservatives" are just leftists who like making money. People should be allowed to kill themselves though.

Fuck the Leafs. Come down here and get me, Mounties! I'll gladly take that twink Mitch Marner when he hits free agency though. Bruins need more scoring than just Pastrnak.

Lol come on mate you see how the source is omitted from the right picture but not the left one? That's cuz Jonathon Van Maren is an incompetent fascist psycho who no one takes seriously, that dude is a journalist the same way that I am a porn star, in that I am vaguely aware of what sex how is supposed to be yet still get laughed out of every room I am in...

Americans need a mandated course in secondary school about how to spot propaganda, that shit would really help y'all out a lot I think.

Well articulated truth.

No, no you don't.

You poor shits were gagged and censored by some Liberal judge over the AdScam sponsorship scandal. I was one of the Americans who posted things to the web despite numerous threats of extradition and incarceration and death from some of your authorities.

You people live in a banana republic with a fake veneer of law and order that's a few rungs down the ladder from America. You most certainly do not have anything like our freedom (fractured as it may be) and you most certainly do not have the freedom to stand against your authorities when they step over the line. Your people go to secret CSIS courts to invoke the Charter's Notwithstanding Clause and *POOF* your irrevocable rights become revocable privileges.

Shit, you poor fuckers can't even legally protest without your government stealing your land, your children, your bank account, and your freedom.

What's worse is Canada's dickless wonders not only tolerate this shit they just reelected the Liberal Party to fuck you harder.

I have friends who served in the PPCLI and even those guys mostly put up with that bullshit. It amazes me.

Here is wisdom on this topic and be sure to check the source. It's important:

“And how we burned in the camps later, thinking: What would things have been like if every Security operative, when he went out at night to make an arrest, had been uncertain whether he would return alive and had to say good-bye to his family? Or if, during periods of mass arrests, as for example in Leningrad, when they arrested a quarter of the entire city, people had not simply sat there in their lairs, paling with terror at every bang of the downstairs door and at every step on the staircase, but had understood they had nothing left to lose and had boldly set up in the downstairs hall an ambush of half a dozen people with axes, hammers, pokers, or whatever else was at hand?... The Organs would very quickly have suffered a shortage of officers and transport and, notwithstanding all of Stalin's thirst, the cursed machine would have ground to a halt! If...if...We didn't love freedom enough. And even more – we had no awareness of the real situation.... We purely and simply deserved everything that happened afterward.”

lets not suck our own dicks too much. the us has plenty of problems too, like foreign investors buying up all our goddamn land, corpo tax loopholes that mean megacorps like amazon pay literally zero dollars in fed taxes.

https://freedomhouse.org/country/united-states actually has us lower than canada. theres nothing wrong with admitting we have problems and working on solutions. lying about that shit hurts us.

I'm sorry but really none of this is true (except for the AdScam debacle but they were French so what can you expect...) we shit canned that PM right after that scandal by the way and had 10 years of conservative governance after that because we take crime seriously up here.

You guys have been fed WAY too many lies about us, sad to see you believe them so strongly. Canada is a neo-liberalist democracy just like the US, we have free markets, free speech, working courts, no one gets dis-appeared to military courts here. We have one of the highest firearms per-capita in the entire world (I think 5th?), none of us are unarmed and scared. Most Canadians I know have at least moderate firearm training and many others are proud gun owners. Since we have a functioning parliamentary system we toss out shitty politicians all the time, and not one of them has tried an insurrection (yet anyways, haven't seen Trudeau in a while...).

We protest all the time, I'm personally involved in a legal battle with my province right now over some shit they tried to pull up here. On top of that our healthcare ISN'T free, most Canadians have some private insurance to supplement the basic care our system provides. Our countries are so similar it's actually pretty funny, but hey I guess listen to the 3 billionaires who own the media telling you otherwise, they got no reason to lie to you I suppose.

My advice is to stop listening to grifters like Jordan Peterson, I know that's where you got the Gulag Archipelago quote from. It's an amazing book which I have actually read but Peterson has either never read it or totally missed the point of the whole book (much how he missed the point of bill C-16 which is what made him famous in the first place).

Ah, Freedom House, the same place that lists countries like Germany and France as having higher freedom ratings than the US despite both countries having laws criminalizing Holocaust denial and/or Nazi imagery. They even rank the UK higher than the US. The UK of course having virtually zero firearms rights ( along with a number of other supposedly "free" countries ) , is losing more free speech rights every day, and where the prohibition of double jeopardy has been abrogated. Japan is given a rating of 96 despite still maintaining the death penalty. Australia is rated at 95 despite labeling toys as firearms, and banning small-breasted women from appearing in pornography because they think they might somehow encourage pedophilia.

The US has a lot of problems but these "freedom" indices are meaningless.

Packaging gun ownership as "freedom" is one of the greatest acts of propaganda our society has ever known. Our governments have AGM-114 Hellfire Knife Missiles, if you really upset the brass your AR-15 is nothing more than a security blanket unfortunately.

Gun ownership isn't a metric of freedom. Guns are legal in pakistan, yemen, iran, etc. Were you gonna shoot down the cluster munitions getting dropped on your house? Do you use your guns to defend yourself against government tyranny? No, I didn't think so.

The freedoms that you use everyday are things like speech, money. Do you feel like your money goes further than it did 20 years ago? If you felt you had to, could you pay for major unexpected expenses with less impact to your daily life than you did 20 years ago? if the answer is no, then you've lost degrees of freedom without realizing it. On paper, you have the right to protest and bear arms. In reality? Protesting means you've lost a day of pay. Firearms and ammo can get expensive depending on where you live. You may not even get to keep your guns if the president gets his way.
