I think a gender role defines the societal expectations placed upon you. I guess an example of this is that we expect women to be shy, soft-spoken, etc. Men are expected to speak up and be more aggressive. Not really my field of expertise though, so I could be off.

Somewhere along the line between the teachers and the media a ton of people were convinced or taught to believe "Conservatives Bad, Liberals Good" and it's hard to break that paradigm.
My brother, for instance, let his wife make the choice about where to live in Sacramento and they bought a nice new home in a shitty part of town. Because that's what enlightened liberals do, right? Showing solidarity with the ghetto by living in a lily white enclave within the ghetto, right? They had the best of intentions, what could possibly go wrong?
They had a home invasion while they were home is what went wrong. The two of them were brutalized and robbed and their useless dog ran away. The police took three hours to show up after my brother called them.
Afterwards my venomously anti-gun brother calls me for advice on what kind of shotgun to buy for home defense.
I had him go buy a stainless steel Mossberg 500 and had him load it out with .00 buck.
And he's still anti-gun.
But wait! There's more!
As a good liberal he's hated private property rights all while hypocritically owning a nice home.
So one day he comes home and about half of his front yard has been dug out and taken for a new sidewalk and a traffic light. He had no notice and no offer of compensation. Just a hearty Fuck You! from the Democrat regime he voted for. His sprinkler system was destroyed, a brick retaining wall was destroyed, a tree was cut down and removed, and again - no warning, no eminent domain proceeding, nothing. And no, there was no easement for the city to seize anything.
He eventually had to hire a lawyer to get compensation for the 100% illegal seizure of his property.
And then he moved to Oregon where he kept voting Democrat.
Now the Democrats in his new city have assessed him $80,000 for the sewer main that they ran through his yard that he is not allowed to hook into.
I laughed at him in November 2023 when he told me about this. I said, "You fled California because the Democrats fucked you over and you kept voting for these people and they fucked you over again! Why did you expect them to act any differently in Oregon than they did in California?"
We haven't spoken since.

This is not eminent domain. The land improved by the city for purposes of adding a public sidewalk and traffic light is part of an easement.
That you claim there was no easement is untrue. All rights of way (i.e. roadways available for public use by all) by definition, under varying state law, include an easement as measured from the centerline of the road to each side of the road. Without this easement it would be impossible for say, a pedestrian, to travel along the road without walking in the roadway (otherwise the land owner could just post the property "no trespassing" and it would be impossible to lawfully pass on foot).
Just because the sidewalk isn't there doesn't mean the easement does not exist to add one.
See how the fence line to the bottom of the picture lines up with the same area highlighted in red? That's because the fence was built at the easement line, in the case the city does decide to add a sidewalk at some point. Ergo, that strip of grass between the fence and road is PUBLIC PROPERTY. Sure, the landowner is typically required to maintain it by city ordinance; regardless, it is OPEN TO THE PUBLIC. You could have a picnic there and nobody could do a damn thing about it.
