Holy shit, Covert. That's fucking awful. Have you contacted an attorney at all? It might not help anything but it could be worth a try.
Yep. That's the problem with fighting the VA... you're essentially fighting the government, which anyone rarely ever wins. I have phone calls tomorrow with 2 attorney offices as well as my veterans advocate who has been fantastic in helping me with my case.

I tell you what fellas, after 5 years in the Marines, 8 years working for OGA overseas contracting, 15 deployments... the worst fight I've ever had to endure has been the fight against the VA just to get basic healthcare. With the injury I have now and the absolute 0 quality of life, I regret ever serving. I finally came to that decision about 5 months ago, I regret it all. I would take it all back if I could just not have this pain anymore.

Take care of yourselves fellas, both physically and mentally. If you get an injury, report it and document it immediately.

Yeah, fighting the government in court is always an uphill battle. Keep on with the fight because what they are doing to you is wrong. Perhaps even consider contacting your local news agency or even a national one. I don't know if you want that kind of publicity - and I can't blame you if you don't - but it is worth considering if only because it might bring you some relief to your pain. You've got my support man, for whatever the support of an anonymous guy with a profile picture of Barack Obama shooting rainbow-lasers out of his hands while riding a unicorn is worth.

My exercise is Kendo, Judo, and Aikido

Exercising not only physically, but also my mental state

I also swim because I was a competitive swimmer back in my Elementary and High School days...I stopped though during the pandemic

Trying brother.

Instead of the VA allowing me to see a doctor/surgeon, they sent armed agents of the state to my door last Tuesday. How unreal is that? They won't let me see a doctor, but they'll send cops to my door, probably hoping to get me into a standoff with police, instead of actually fixing me.

VA is the #1 reason why vets kill themselves in my opinion.
Threaten to take this to the media. I’ve heard many other vets in Indiana talk about shitty experiences with VA. See if you can get any support from American legions or Vet help groups. Last thing the VA needs is tons of bad attention show casing how incompetent and anti American they are

Yo covert.. this might seem dumb and not a VA story, but regarding your gait and back issues subsequent to the foot healing.. I had a sciatica incident in Feb this year. When that happened, I was paralyzed from the waist down and in excruciating pain stuck on my stomach in bed. It took me about 2 hours to roll over and crawl onto the floor like a buffoon while my dogs are licking my face and feet because they needed to poo. eventually I made it to ER.

I saw specialists and docs similar to you. the surgeons want to cut and fuse, the rehab people want to rehab, etc etc. in the end, during a PT session, a nurse told me to take a look at a book called The Back Mechanic. its not some useless book where its trying to sell you something else once you buy it. Its a step by step process to identify specific movements that cause pain and then assigns exercises and flexibility movements to address the root cause of the pain.

anyway, I did it for March - April having barely been walking in February. I am back to deading 315x5x5 belt only across now in July without the surgical path, infusions and lifetime of treatment that conventional medicine wanted to pursue. i really barely even read the book as I already have been active in my life, I read the intro then skipped to the test section. the test and exercise section was legit. in the end, for me, doing decline weighted situps was putting a ton of pressure on my lumbar area. switching to planks from decline situps and doing regular piraformis stretching made a HUGE impact. i'm feeling better than I have in years past and I'm an old piece of shit. go figure

i have a PDF I can send you, LMK

I wanted to go down there with a big ass sign saying "VA IS REFUSING ME CARE - FUCK THE VA" but I'm too fucked up to hardly get there, let alone get my ass on the sidewalk to protest. I'm in the process of getting things together to contact news outlets as well.

Seriously try and reach out to SSG Douglas M. Ducote and explain your entire situation to him. He might be able to help or point you in a better direction.

I wrestled in college and after my sophomore year I got hit by someone going 25 mph (texting in traffic) while on a road bicycle. Ended up with a low level TBI and couldn’t be in direct light and with migraines for 4 months and had to drop out of work, school and wrestling. Ended up transferring out to another school 18 months later.

No amount insurance money is worth the life taken away from you by pain.
