There was that whole revolutionary war thing that wouldn't have been successful without them.

Ironically, their retreat out of WWII is the only blemish on their war records for the last 150 years before that.

And it did provide us with a large amount of our supplies, war machine, and weapons during the initialy retaking of France.

I'm actually watching a documentary on this right now. France was not prepared for this war. In fact, each untrained soldier was sent to the front with a box of 10 rounds, and instructed not to open it. Their only saving grace was the Foreign Legion, which recruited Spanish and other affected people's, whose countries were decimated by the Nazis.
